A rootsy and road-tested Southern rock ensemble with both bar band swagger and country-pop smarts, Nashville, Tennessee’s A Thousand Horses specialize in a blend of hard-hitting classic rock, modern country, and highway-ready Americana, falling somewhere between the Black Crowes, Florida Georgia Line, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. After cutting their teeth for several years, they broke through with their debut single, “Smoke,” which topped the country charts in 2015.

Southernality

The culmination of the musical pursuits of longtime friends and Newberry, South Carolina natives Michael Hobby (lead vocals, harmonica) and Bill Satcher (lead guitar), who had been making music together since they were 15, the band, which also features the talents of Graham DeLoach (bass, vocals) and Zack Brown (guitar, vocals), released an eponymous debut EP in 2010. This led to the group inking a deal with Big Machine Records/Republic Nashville in 2014. Their first single for the label, “Smoke,” was a number one hit, earning the band widespread exposure. It was followed by “(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial,” which peaked at number 22. Southernality, A Thousand Horses‘ full-length debut album, was released in 2015 in the midst of a North American Tour, and landed in the Top Five at the beginning of the New Year. They followed up in 2017 with Bridges, a deluxe EP that featured six new tracks along with a set of live acoustic tracks cut in the U.K. and Nashville.

Directed by Shaun Silva (TackleBox Films), the video features scenes from A Thousand Horses’ high-energy performances throughout their recent stint opening for Jason Aldean on his We Were Here Tour. “This was a really fun shoot since we got to film most of it in a concert setting,” said frontman Michael Hobby. “Our fans relate to the message of this song and we love getting to show our Southern personalities when we perform.” The band made their UK debut earlier this year with a pe rformance at C2C, the UK’s biggest country music festival, at the O2 Arena alongside an intimate headline show at The Barfly in Camden, London and will be returning at the end of the year with the following dates. The band have also been nominated for ‘Best New Band’ at this year’s Classic Rock Awards. Back in the US, the band have made an equally impressive impact with their first single ‘Smoke’ soaring to Number 1 on both the Mediabase and Billboard Country Airplay Charts, making Country Aircheck history as the highest debut for a new artist’s first single. They also became the first band (with at least three members) to send a debut single to Number 1 on Billboard Country Airplay Chart this decade. Just seven days after their debut album SOUTHERNALITY was released, their first single “Smoke” has officially been RIAA-certified GOLD.
