When plans for a career as a professional golfer were derailed by injury, country singer/songwriter Jake Owen picked up a guitar and never looked back. A native of Vero Beach, FL, Jake and his fraternal twin, Jarrod, grew up in the Florida sun playing sports like baseball and football before Jake turned to golf and Jarrod to tennis. They continued their respective sports together as students at Florida State University, until a waterskiing accident resulted in reconstructive surgery for Jake. Off the golf team and depressed, he borrowed a neighbor’s guitar and passed time teaching himself to play by listening to childhood smashes like Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Vern Gosdin, and Keith Whitley.

Ambitious but inexperienced, with good looks and a smooth baritone, Jake could next be found playing country covers in campus bars for free beer and a few bucks. Soon growing tired of covers, he started penning his own music that were met with positive response. This motivated Jake even more to follow his new dream of becoming a singer, eventually causing him to skip out on his remaining college classes — only nine credit hours remained on his English and political science degree — and head to Nashville. He constantly wrote music in his Bellevue apartment, and a chance lunch meeting had producer Jimmy Ritchey (Clay Walker, Mark Chesnutt) befriending the young musician. For over a year, the two wrote songs together, including a track called “Ghost” (also co-written by Chuck Jones) that Kenny Chesney almost wound up recording — the track would later be included on Jake’s own album.

Eventually, his friendship with Ritchey led to a meeting with Sony/BMG Nashville and resulted in a album signed deal for the determined 24-year-old, who already had his album basically finished. His debut, Startin’ with Me, appeared in summer 2006 on RCA, spearheaded by the single “Yee Haw.” As the song climbed higher in the charts, Jake supported the album on the road opening for Kenny Chesney. In 2007, the title track ballad became the album’s second single, reaching number six and spending a whopping 35-plus weeks on the Billboard country charts. “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You” appeared in the summer of 2008, heralding the release of his second full-length, Easy Does It, in February of 2009.

Jake Owen And Lacey Buchanan Are Expecting A Child! Jake Owen and new wife Lacey are expecting their first child! Owen proposed to the 22-year-old, long-time girlfriend on stage in April and a month later they were married. They are quick to say this isn’t a shotgun wedding by any means! Owen told People magazine that he had already asked Lacey’s father for her hand when they found out she was pregnant. “The way we saw it, the baby news was a bonus on top of the engagement but we didn’t want anyone to think we were getting married because Lacey was pregnant, and we wanted to celebrate our wedding first.” -Owen to People Congrats to both of them and their families! Babies are a blessing and we wish Lacey a healthy and happy pregnancy!

Jake Owen Weds Lacey Buchanan! Well, ladies, another one of our good lookin’ country crooners if officially off the market! As of Monday, May 7th, Jake Owen is officially married to model, Lacey Buchanan. The two were hitched Jake’s hometown of Vero Beach, FL in a sunrise ceremony on the beach. He provided People magazine with an incredibly sweet quote about they chose this style of wedding. “That was my idea, because it’s symbolic of the dawn of a new day and starting our new life together.” -Jake Owen Isn’t that one of the most lovely things you have ever heard a groom say? Congrats to both Jake and Lacey!

It’s Official, Jake Owen Is Engaged! Jake Owen is now engaged to his girlfriend, Lacey Buchanan! The country singer proposed during a concert at his alma mater in Vero Beach, Florida on Saturday night in front of friends and family. The big question was popped during his performance of “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You.” The “Alone With You” singer did not have a ring at the moment, which leads some to believe that this was a spontaneous event! Spontaneous or not, there is no denying the amount of love the two have for each other! Buchanan has appeared in Owen’s music videos for “8 Second Ride” and “Barefoot Blue Jean Night.” Owen tweeted, “I’m a happy man. The Music Video For Jake Owen’s Latest Single “Alone With You.” Jake Owen had a great amount of success with his summer anthem “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” and the way his latest single is climbing charts he might just make it two in a row! “Alone With You” is not what you would call a “love” song, more of a “lust” song. This racy video shows us (in detail) what goes on in an “after midnight” or “booty call” type relationship. You can find “Alone With You” on Owen’s album Barefoot Blue Jean Night and you can catch him on tour in 2012 with Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney on their Brothers Of The Sun tour. 45th Annual CMA Nominees Announcement Date Set

Nominees for the 45th Annual CMAs To Be Announced September 6th! The 2011 CMA Awards are quickly approaching, and it’s almost time to find out who all the nominees are going to be! We here at the CMNB newsroom, as members of the Country Music Association, have already had the opportunity to weigh in on the nomination process, and we are incredibly excited to who made it into the final nominations! The announcement of the nominees will take place Tuesday, September 6th from two different locations. The Band Perry and Jake Owen will announce the final nominees of the first five categories at 8:30am on ABC‘s Good Morning America. This will be followed by a performance of “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” by Owen!. The nominees in the last seven categories will be announced from a press conference at the Ryman in Nashville by Jerrod Niemann and Thompson Square. (Also in NASHVILLE, duo The Janedear Girls will announce the finalists for the 2011 CMA Broadcast Award Personality and Radio Station of the Year in four categories (small, medium, large, and major markets), as well as the finalists for the CMA National Broadcast Personality.) Stay tuned because as soon as the nominees are announced we will have them posted for you! The 45th Annual Country Music Association Awards will be hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley and air at 7pm on Wednesday, November 9th at 7pm.

Jake Owen was in fine form last night as he wooed the single ladies in Nashville’s Single In the City benefit gala. Guests were treated to music, and cocktails while they got the opportunity to bid in an auction for a date with some of Nashville’s hottest singles.  So far there’s no word on how much a date with Jake auctioned for, but let me tell you I’d guess the ladies were pretty competitive for that one! Jake Owen to Finish New Album

Jake Owen is wrapping up in his producer’s studio over the next few weeks and shares his enthusiasm for  the wide variety of songs included in the coming album with CMT. “When I’m buying a record, I want to make sure I can listen to it from top to bottom, and to have an eclectic mix of songs,” he says. “Not songs that all sound the same. They’re random, you know, and that’s what keeps me as a listener.” Jake Owen proudly takes co-writing credit for 9 of the tracks on his new album, including the current hit, “Startin’ with me” but is just as excited about songs that  were provided to him.Country Music Photo Gallery
