Born in Amarillo, TX, singer/songwriter John Rich had his first taste of success in Nashville as the lead vocalist for Lonestar. He exited the ensemble amid some turmoil after the release of its second album, and headed into the studio to make a record of his own. The resulting Underneath the Same Moon — which featured collaborations with Sara Evans, the Fairfield Four, and Delbert McClinton, as well as his future songwriting partner from Big & Rich, Kenny Alphin (aka Big Kenny) — was finished and unfortunately shelved in 1998. Meanwhile, Big Kenny had recorded his own solo album, Live a Little, only to see it suffer the same fate as Underneath the Same Moon. With no solo record to support, the two songwriters funneled their energies into Big & Rich, which became a successful country pair while the 2000s. Years later, Rich’s success with Alphin renewed interest in his solo album, prompting BNA Records to officially release Underneath the Same Moon in March of 2006. Rich spent the not long after year hosting his own reality tv show, Gone Country, and giving concerts in support of Big & Rich’s third studio record. Meanwhile, he found time to further his solo career with Son of a Preacher Man, which marked his second solo record upon its release in early 2009.

St. Jude Honors John Rich

John Rich Receives Special Honor from St. Jude. In a special Country Cares for St. Jude Kids seminar in Memphis,TN John Rich was awarded the first ever Randy Owen Angels Among Us Award. The award honors Rich’s commitment and dedication to St. Jude and children who are battling cancer and other deadly diseases at the Hospital. “St. Jude holds a very special place in my heart. It’s like no other place and I’m just so honored to help raise awareness for this organization.” -John Rich Country Cares was started by Randy Owen in 1989, and since that time it has raised over $400 million. Kudos to John Rich and St. Jude for bringing awareness and aid to these kids and their needs.

John Rich Welcomes Second Child

John Rich Announces the Birth of Second Son! John Rich has announced that he and wife Joan welcomed the arrival of their second son Thursday, September 29th! He made the announcement (of course!) via Twitter on October 2nd, and shared that they have named their child, Colt Daniel Rich. He wrote in the message: “He’s a real ‘Son of a Gun’…VERY proud!!”. Colt joins brother Cash who was born in 2010. Rich and his wife have been married since 2008. Congratulations to the whole family!!

John Rich talks Gibson guitars, rock and roll, and his new album! In a recent interview with Gibson Guitars, John Rich goes into detail about his new solo album, and where he is at in music today. From citing this as “the most aggressive rock and roll music he’s ever made” to discussing his love of his very special Gibson Hummingbird. I‘ve always been a Gibson guy, going back to watching my Dad play. He had an old Gibson,” Rich said. “As soon as I had enough money to buy a Gibson, I did. I got a vintage Hummingbird and I think I paid like $600 for it and spent another $500 getting it fixed up good enough to play. And on that particular Hummingbird I’ve written over 1,000 songs. That’s my writer guitar – when I sit down to write something serious that’s the guitar I pull out. “I love the tone of the Gibson. It’s got the beef on the bottom but its got that cut too. You know, Martin has a sound that’s more high end, a ringing sound but the Gibson offers more range from low to high. All the music you heard from me and on Big & Rich, acoustically, is always on Gibson guitars. My hands have spent thousands of hours on Gibson guitars because Gibson stands for excellence. Take my new song, the main promotion shot is me looking down the neck of a Gibson guitar and the folks in Nashville put rhinestones all around it for me and carved Muzik Mafia.
