Taylor Swift VS Miranda Lambert: Country Music’s Battle of the Barbies

Taylor Swift and Miranda Lambert both share the country music spotlight, but which one’s a knock-out, who’s gonna just burn out, who’s holding a secret weapon?

Knock outs: Taylor Swift IS the voice of female teen angst in a pretty prom dress. Her songs are original, often lyrically witty, and touch her target listeners in a way that they can personally relate to. Her management/marketing team is certainly doing a phenomenal job of keeping her nose clean and her name in the spotlight. And her studio albums have all blown through the charts.

Burn Outs: What Taylor succeeds at in songwriting ability, she fails at equally in live performance. Unfortunately it would seem that her management team has not put any effort into maturing her vocal abilities through professional instruction. I hate to disappoint Team Taylor, but my guess is that she’s got another year or two before she suffers a Lila McCann style fate of forgotten teen stardom.

With a top-selling sophomore album under her belt, Taylor’s confidence is pretty high.  There’s even rumors of Taylor headlining her own tour already, which I honestly don’t think she’s strong enough to carry on her own.

Miranda Lambert

Knock outs: From being featured in Field & Stream magazine, to her work with organizations like Pawsabilities and Hunters for the Hungry, Miranda demonstrates that she is more than just a pop country princess. At the same time, she writes her own songs, and shows nothing but pure talent whenever she performs. She’s gained much respect from fellow country music artists as being far more talented than any “Barbie-like pop country princess”.

Burn Outs: Because Miranda isn’t showboating like many of the other blonde bombshells in country music, her name isn’t in the papers often enough to get the same super-celebrity status as the other girls. This could be good… could be bad. That depends on her goals. But with talent like hers, the press certainly ought to wisen up and take notice!

Miranda Lambert is heading into the studio next month to work on her 3rd album before she heads out on tour with Kenny Chesney this summer. As for headlining her own tour, we’re all waiting!

  11. Miranda!! No contest!! Miranda will be a a country music legend. Taylor will be forgotten once she reaches her mid-20’s. Her very weak vocals in live shows will eventually do her in.

  32. Miranda sucks. For the first two years I couldn’t understand a word she says because she mumbled. Now I understand what she’s saying and she still sucks. Her voice is okay, but her lyrics fall flat, not the words, the tune–never anything catchy enough that I ever want to hear it again.

  33. No stacked deck here, of course. Just read the intros – Taylor’s not bad but it’s all about marketing and she’ll burn out in a couple of years. Yeah right. Two loaded, best-selling, self-written albums, and she’s only 19. The cover of Rolling Stone, TV offers up the wazoo, concerts selling out in minutes. It must really suck for ya all to even think about it.

    All you folks just keep on chatting amongst yourselves and convince each other that some day, some where, Miranda’s going to be the star that Taylor is. How many “ha ha’s” can I write in one sentence. Only an angry, deluded mob could believe some of the comments here. Oh well…I now return you to your parallel universe.

    She won female vocalist of the year, and album of the year and was nominated for several others tonight…I think it’s obvious that she slept her way to the top.

  38. Laura, are you on crack? Tone-deaf? Completely diluted? If you watched ANY of tonight’s performance (or any other live Taylor Swift disaster) there is NO WAY you can compare the two, much less defend Taylor’s poor breath support, absolute off-key, shrill excuse for a voice with talent.

    White Lieyou? And I don’t know why,white Lieyou? WTF?

    I challenge anyone to go listen to that song and make out White Liar in her lyrics.

    It sounds like white lieyou. Its almost as if she has a speech impediment. Her recording producers should have made it clearer for folks to hear. Wouldn’t be bad if it was only a word or two through out the song but the MAIN CHORUS LINE?

  40. Taylor Swift did NOT work hard to get to were she is. Mommy and Daddy had a lot of money and basically bought her way into fame. Her songs may be catchy but next time you see her on television stop and really listen because, bless her heart, the girl cannot sing. Also, she is over 20 years old she needs to stop writing songs about being in high-school and the boys she dated for a 2-week period. Miranda wins that’s all there is to it.

  44. Okay, I like Taylor Swift better, but in terms of country, Miranda Lambert is much better. I mean, c’mon, Taylor’s new album has pop written all over it, (even iTunes says so). So as much as I love Taylor, when you want real bubblegum country, leave it to Miranda.

  48. Miranda!Miranda!Miranda! I can sing most of Taylors songs,sound good no problem,’but trying to sing Mirandas songs I cannot even come close! It takes a great deal of talent and artistry to sing like that!
